BC Partizan crew has sailed in the Euroleague Top 8 seas for the third consecutive year! Barcelona took their revenge over the Black and Whites, the only team that has beaten them in this Euroleague, beating them in 'Blaugrana' by the score 82:64 (22:16, 14:14, 25:12, 21:22). However, the Black and White had their Top 8 spot guaranteed before the match as Panathinaikosa took their revenge over Maroussi, 82:79 in the 6 p.m fixture of the group E.
BC Partizan concluded their group E competition with a 3-3 score as runners-up to the group winners Barcelona who finished their fixtures with a 5-1 score, losing only to BC Partizan. The Black and Whites had a perfect start of the match against the most dominant team in the Euroleague and where almost equal at the half time. However, Barca broke the opponents in the black and white jerseys in the third quarter and snatched the 1st position and the chance to play 'El Classicos' against Real Madrid in the Top 8 quarter-finals. Partizan's top scorer in this match, Lawrence Roberts, contributed to the team by 14 points, while Aleks Marić scored 11 pts and grabbed 14 rebounds.
Partizan had a decisive opening of the match and took the initial lead of 7:2, and everything seemed similar to Belgrade game until the hosts struck back with 7:0 run and took the lead determined to win this game and finished the first quarter by 22:16.
The second quarter might have been depicted as a real battlefield time as the opposing sides in this match played powerful defences with enormously intense contact play which resulted in small amount of points and huge piles of personal fouls as after the 2nd quarter Aleks Marić, Jan Vesely and Petar Božić all collect 3 personal fouls each. The half time score was on Barcelona's side – 36:30.
The third quarter was marked by Blaugrana players who seemed incapable of missing a single three point shot, as Basile and Jaka Lakovic kept consistently pouring each and every downtown shot from all positions. Barca just knew how to keep the acquired lead and routinely finished the match against Serbian Champions.
BC Partizan Head Coach Duško Vujošević expressed how proud he was after such a breakthrough of his team and appointed on the Catalan side power at this moment.
"Congratulations to Barcelona for magnificent season up to these days. I extremely respect their players, coach, playing style and how they manage to make individual qualities of each player rise to completely new level by teamwork. It would be very surprising if Barca do not win the Euroleague in this season, although, it is very hard to keep up a good shape of the team through the entire season. We are proud for the fact that we are the only Euroleague team to beat Barcelona in the entire season. We are also proud for the fact that our team was completely new at the beginning of the season and we have progressed this far, in the company of the eight best European teams", said Vujošević.
Partizan will play against Maccabi Electra from Tel Aviv in the Eurolague Top 8. Maccabi beat Real in Madrid 66:64 and secured the first position in their group leaving Real Madrid as runners up in group F. The Euroleague Top 8 phase will be played in the 2-2-1 system and the Israeli side will have the home court advantage. The Top 8 matches start from March 23 and the last fixtures of this phase are scheduled for April 7, when the Top 8 will officially reveal all Final 4 contestants
